Gas Struts for Trailers, Enclosed Trailers, Lid Struts & Ramps
OEM-spec gas struts for enclosed trailer lids, ramps, and hatches. Nationwide delivery across South Africa. Call +27 71 080 5429.
Gas Struts for Enclosed Trailers and Ramp Doors
Trailer gas struts take more load cycling than most vehicle applications, lids open and close under load, ramp doors absorb impact, and hatches are exposed to road dust and temperature swings. A generic strut fails quickly under these conditions. Gas It Lift specifies gas struts for trailers by application, giving you the correct force rating, stroke length, and end fittings for your specific trailer setup.
We supply gas struts and gas shocks for enclosed trailer lids, trailer ramp doors, side access hatches, and trailer toolbox lids. If you can send us the old strut or your measurements (stroke length, compressed length, force rating printed on the body), we can match a replacement or supply a suitable alternative from our stock range.
Not sure how to measure? Call or WhatsApp us, we'll guide you through it. See our gas spring sizes guide for a step-by-step measurement walkthrough.
- Enclosed trailer lid gas struts, correct force rating for your lid weight
- Trailer ramp door gas struts, rated for impact and cyclic load
- Trailer hatch and side panel gas struts
- Correct end fittings, ball socket, clevis, or eye bolt to suit your mounting
- Nationwide courier delivery across South Africa
- 24-month warranty on all struts supplied
How to Spec Your Trailer Gas Strut
Three measurements determine the correct gas strut for your trailer: stroke length (extended minus compressed length, the travel distance), compressed length (total length when closed, to confirm it fits in the mounting space), and force rating in Newtons (the upward force the strut provides, printed on the old strut body if visible).
If the old strut has failed completely, measure from mounting point to mounting point when the lid or ramp is open at its intended angle. Send us those measurements and we'll recommend the correct specification. We also supply gas strut end fittings if your mounting hardware needs replacing at the same time.
Gas struts are a type of gas spring, sealed nitrogen-filled cylinders used across vehicle panels and industrial applications worldwide.

Common questions about Gas Struts for Trailers, Enclosed Trailers, Lid Struts & Ramps.
What gas strut do I need for an enclosed trailer?
It depends on the lid weight, hinge position, and the angle you want the lid to hold open. Give us the lid dimensions, approximate weight, and hinge-to-strut mounting measurements and we'll specify the correct force rating and stroke length.
Can I get gas struts for a trailer lid in South Africa?
Yes. Gas It Lift supplies gas struts for trailer lids, ramps, and hatches nationwide. We courier anywhere in South Africa, most deliveries arrive within 2 to 3 business days of dispatch.
How do I measure a trailer gas strut?
Measure the old strut: compressed length (fully closed, end fitting to end fitting), extended length (fully open), and note the force rating printed on the cylinder body if visible. The stroke length is the difference between extended and compressed. Our gas spring sizes guide has a full walkthrough.
Do you supply gas struts for trailer ramps?
Yes. Ramp door struts are rated for higher cyclic loads than lid struts. Give us your ramp dimensions and weight and we'll specify the correct force rating.
