Types of Gas Strut End Fittings
The end fitting is the connection point between the gas strut and its mounting surface. Getting the correct end fitting is as important as getting the correct strut, the wrong fitting type means the strut cannot be mounted, or will work loose under load. Gas It Lift supplies gas shock ends and mounting hardware for all common gas strut applications.
Ball socket end: The most common fitting for vehicle applications. A plastic or metal socket that snaps onto a ball stud welded or bolted to the vehicle body. Available in various ball diameters, 8mm and 10mm are most common for vehicle use.
Clevis / fork end: A U-shaped bracket with a bolt-through mounting. Used in industrial, heavy-duty, and high-load applications where a snapped socket would be insufficient. More secure under vibration and cyclic load.
Eye bolt end: A looped end that mounts through a pin or bolt. Common on lighter panel applications such as smaller cabinet lids and domestic hatches.
Threaded stud end: The strut rod is threaded; a nut or stud mount screws directly onto the mounting point. Used where the strut must be set to a specific angle without a pivot socket.

How to Identify Your Gas Strut End Fitting
Step 1, look at the end of the old strut. Is it a plastic snap socket (ball socket), a metal fork with a bolt hole (clevis), a loop (eye bolt), or a threaded rod end? Step 2, measure the ball diameter if it's a ball socket (8mm and 10mm are standard vehicle sizes; larger diameters are used in heavy industrial). Step 3, note whether both ends are the same type or different (many struts have a ball socket at one end and a clevis or eye bolt at the other).
Not sure? Send us a photo on WhatsApp, we'll identify the fitting type and ball or pin size for you. Gas strut mounting hardware is available to order separately or supplied with a new strut. We also carry end fittings for trailer gas struts and industrial applications.
Gas strut end fittings are components of gas springs, sealed nitrogen-filled cylinders used across vehicle panels and industrial applications worldwide.

Common questions about Gas Strut End Fittings & Mounting Hardware, Gauteng.
What are gas strut end fittings?
Gas strut end fittings are the hardware components at each end of a gas strut that attach it to the vehicle body or application. The most common types are ball socket ends (vehicle use), clevis or fork ends (industrial use), and eye bolt ends (lighter panel applications).
Can I replace just the end fitting on a gas strut?
Ball socket ends can be replaced if the socket itself has cracked or worn, the socket typically clips onto the ball stud and can be removed and replaced without replacing the strut. However, if the strut has lost pressure, the strut itself must be replaced; there is no benefit in fitting new sockets to a failed strut.
What size ball stud do I need for my gas strut?
8mm and 10mm ball studs are the most common sizes for vehicle applications. The ball stud diameter must match the ball socket inner diameter. If you're not sure which size your vehicle uses, send us a photo of the old fitting or the strut end and we'll confirm the correct size.
Do you supply gas strut mounting brackets?
Yes. We supply mounting brackets, ball studs, and end fittings for standard gas strut applications. Call or WhatsApp us with your strut model or end fitting type and we'll advise the correct hardware.
